Sophomore Year 2017

Our Approach

My Golf Story

As my freshman year (Fall 2016) approached I decided that I wanted to try out for my high school team and received a varsity letter. It was during this season that my love for the sport really grew. I not only wanted to play golf but I wanted to compete. I wanted to be a little better every day.

After my freshman season, I worked very hard to prepare to compete in the off season. I played in 19 tournaments in the late spring and summer of 2017 with 14 top 10 finishes and Kansas City Junior Tour Player of the Year runner-up.

During my 2017 high school season I received All Conference and All District honors. I placed 2nd in Conference and was the District 8 Class 2 champion with a score of 79. With a 6th place finish in sectionals, I achieved one of my personal goals for the season and advanced to the Class 2 state tournament. I placed 19th in the field of 96 with scores of 81 and 80.

During the summer of 2018, my goal was to start playing at longer yardages and improve my game at the high school yardages. I had 3 tournament wins between the Kansas City and Missouri Junior Tours. I also had my lowest tournament score of 74, placed in the top 10 at the Missouri Junior Amateur Championship and was the Kansas City Junior Tour Champion.

My junior season I had two tournament wins - Central Invitational (+2) and the Corwin Classic (+1). I tied the winning score at Conference (82), placed 2nd at Districts, and had the 3rd lowest individual qualifying score at sectionals.

Our Story

Hobbies

I played basketball for many years growing up and played for my 8th grade school team. While I don't play competitively any more, I still love to shoot hoops with my sister and brother. I love music and played the cello for 4 years and taught myself how to play guitar and ukulele. I also love to draw and paint. Here is a link to some of my work: http://abbyh16-17.blogspot.com/

Train

This winter, I worked with my personal trainer on strength and conditioning and my instructor on fine tuning my swing and distances. It was a snowy winter but I did get out to play whenever possible.

Tournament Play

Summer of 2019 I played in many tournaments that stretched my distance to 5800-6200 yards and challenged me. I finished in the top half of both the Prairie Invitational and the Kansas Women's Amateur.
